My chosen image is of buffalo bill
from silence of the lambs. This image consists of buffalo bill dressing up In women’s
clothes and dancing pretending he is female. The character also skins women to make
clothes out of them to wear. This links with the historical context of Ed Gein,
this is what makes it fearful as it links with real life event. The shot is a
medium shot, trying to be a representation of him recording himself dancing.
The character is an archetypal character as the film was released only 7 years
after the death of Ed Gein meaning that the horror of him is still in the audiences
mind. Buffalo Bill being centre frame makes him the main focal point of image;
it also represents how he is a main character. The women’s clothes behind him
and in this scene buffalo bill putting make up on shows his transsexual tendencies
and how he is uncomfortable with himself and what he looks like, this is a
typical back story you will see with psycho killers in this genre.
