magazine Analysis

I created my magazine in the style of the iconic magazine ‘Fangoria’, which is a US magazine containing mainly slasher and gore horror films. However, I feel that the style of the magazine isn't perfect for the more psychological side of my film. However the magazine did create was very conventional to a horror magazine, for example the colors. The main colors on my magazine are red and black both conventional for a horror magazine as the both connote fear and danger. The type I used was red and has dripping effect representing the look of blood, this links well with the theme of ‘Fangoria’ being mainly slasher films. The use of yellow writing for information works well as it contrasts to one another making it stand out and appeal to the audience.

Another convention is the main character or scariest character being the main image on the magazine, as this will appeal to the target audience. Two shots are very conventional when showing the archetypal character in horror (monster or killer) a close up or a long shot from a low angle to show the power and strength of the person.

Overall I feel that my magazine I created is effective and works well, I feel that a magazine writing about a horror film should stick to the genre of horror film magazines. As a weekly or monthly release for horror magazines the target audience will aspect the latest film will be in the magazine as they will most likely have a subscription. However when putting a horror film such as mine in a magazine such s empire or total film I feel it doesn't work as well and the more up market look doesn't work as well for horror films and will to appeal to the audience as much.
